TONIGHT @ 7 pm: Spring break service immersion info session

Join VT Engage and our student leaders tonight, Thursday 12/3, to learn about our three domestic service immersion trips. We'll be in the Newman Library, room 207 @ 7 p.m.

For all of our upcoming spring break trips, a limited amount of need-based financial assistance is available. All applicants will be considered. For questions on any of the trips, please contact the student leaders for the trip(s) you are interested in, or contact staff advisor Lucy Adams at or 540.231.7042. Applications for each trip are due on January 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.

New Orleans, LA
Join VT Engage in New Orleans to work with Common Ground Relief, a community-initiated volunteer organization based in New Orleans that focuses on rebuilding the Lower Ninth Ward and restoring the wetlands along the Gulf Coast.

During this trip, we will be working mainly with the Wetlands Restoration Program. Some of our work will include planting trees and marsh grasses, working in the nursery, invasive species removal, and working within the Lower Ninth Ward Neighborhood. We will be staying in the Lower Ninth Ward at Common Ground Relief’s housing.

Participants will need to be comfortable working on boats (motor boats and canoes) and in the water. Participants need to be 18 years and older. The cost of the trip will be between $350-400. Questions? Contact trip leaders Martha, and Emily, Apply here.

New York, NY
Join VT Engage in New York City to work with GMHC, an organization serving men, women, and children at risk of and affected by HIV/AIDS.

In recent years, this virus has been masked by many diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and other epidemics. However, the need for attention is greater than ever. GMHC connects people with resources to reduce the symptoms of the disease, educates people on preventing HIV infection, and advocates for policies that support care and education.

During this thought-provoking trip, we will explore the many different issues surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The cost of the trip will be between $450-500. Questions? Contact trip leaders Audrey, and Linda, Apply here.

New Jersey
Hurricane Sandy made landfall on October 29th, 2012, devastating the coast of New Jersey. Three years later, there is still a lot of work to be done. While most of the boardwalks, sea walls, and beaches have been restored, there are still thousands of families that are in need of help.

As time has gone by, it has become more cost effective for homeowners to demolish their homes along the Jersey shore and rebuild from scratch. We will be heading to Southern New Jersey to help demolish one of these houses with the organization Heart and Hands Disaster Recovery. Participants must be 18 years or older and okay with some heavy lifting.

The cost of this trip is between $450-500. Questions? Contact trip leader Megan, and Shaifali, Apply here.
