Event Time and Date
Join VT Engage over spring break for a service immersion trip!
We will travel to Sparta, North Carolina and work with the Northern Highlands chapter of Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway! Working to promote and preserve the Blue Ridge Parkway, Friends has been a partner of the National Park Service since 1988. This trip will serve with Friends on Parkway preservation projects such as repairing fencing and trail maintenance. Participants will also work with local community organizations such as clothing banks and soup kitchens to learn about the economic and social impacts of the Parkway on surrounding communities. Additionally, cultural events like a trip to a local jamboree will immerse participants in the culture of the Northern Highlands region.
This trip will depart campus on Sunday, March 5 and return on Saturday, March 11. All transportation, food, and lodging are included in the price of the trip.
The cost of this trip is between $300 and $350. A limited amount of need based financial assistance is available. Please contact Service Learning Coordinator Lisa Hill at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions about financial assistance.
All graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to apply, but space is limited. The deadline to apply is January 29, 2017. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, the trip may fill before the application deadline.
VT Engage is currently accepting applications for this and one other alternative spring break trip for 2017. Visit the Spring Break Service Immersion: Rural Community Development page for more information.
