About

e-NABLE at Virginia Tech

e-NABLE at Virginia Tech is a charitable, design-based club that creates a variety of assistive devices for community members that live in the New River Valley and beyond. In the 2023-24 academic year, some of the projects we completed includes:

- A prosthetic to help a community member's dog with a missing leg walk better

- Keyguard guides for iPads to assist students with special needs in communicating more easily

- A custom bike to help a dyspraxic student enjoy riding with her parents

Our club employs additive manufacturing, 3D modeling, and engineering design skills to create a variety of devices that significantly aid both local and global partners.

We collaborate with the Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics Department, the Carilion Clinic Center Center for Simulation, Research and Patient Safety, and the Virginia Department of Education’s Training and Technical Assistance Center.

Skills You Will Develop:

- SolidWorks 3D modeling

- Prototyping abilities

- Research and Development (R&D) skills

- Networking

- Arduino programming

- Formal presentation skills

We occasionally offer design competitions and design-a-thons for select members who demonstrate exceptional teamwork and design skills. However, all members will have opportunities for professional development, design workshops, and listening to guest speakers.

Join Us:

Experience with CAD and 3D printing is helpful but not required; we will teach you everything you need to know. We welcome students from all majors, as diverse perspectives are valuable in the engineering process.

If you're interested in joining or would like more information, you can contact one of our officers, email us, or stop by our meetings once they begin in September. We look forward to meeting you!
